Major was born on May 15, 1985. He came to Gabby’s Sanctuary ARK (GSA) in February 2014 when his owners moved out of state and couldn’t take their horses along. (Major was financially sponsored by his previous owners.) He was depressed because he lost a buddy after 12 years of partnership, but he was the man of the hour when he came. Major loved the girls, and the companionship brought him back to life.
On September 30, 2015, Major was found on the ground in his stall. We were able to get him up and give him medications, but he still did not respond back to normal. We loaded him in the trailer and took him to the vet. After examination, it was determined that he was trying to colic. Colic is belly pain caused by gas, blockage, or a twist in the intestine. He was so impacted that it was in his upper GI, and that was not a good sign. He stayed overnight at the vet, and he seemed to be doing well; however, he took a turn for the worst.

We decided that, considering his advanced age of 30 years (equivalent of 85.5 human years), we did not want Major to suffer. He had a good life at GSA, and we are honored to have had the chance to care for him. He will be missed. He was picked up and buried at Pine Hills cemetery with a marker. Major died with dignity.
