Vet working on Oscar’s hoof
Oscar visited the vet last week. He had a crack in his front left hoof and, because of the rain and mud, it had gotten infected and formed an access. If left untreated, infection from the abcess could get in his blood stream, travel to his heart, and kill him. To keep Oscar calm during the process, he was given a mild sedative, which is why he appears to be half asleep.

Fortunately, the vet was able to drain the access, apply antibiotics, and bandage Oscar’s foot to protect it from dirt and bacteria.

Oscar will be confined to his stall for the next couple of weeks while his hoof heals. As always, this was an unforeseen expense. Please remember your horse pals this holiday season. If you own horses or other outside animals, inspect their feet frequently to keep them healthy!
